LED vs LCD monitors — and why panel grade matters

Two labels you will see on every monitor listing, explained without the marketing fog: what LED backlighting actually is, and what an A+ panel grade guarantees.

THE SHORT ANSWER

An LED monitor is an LCD monitor with a modern LED backlight. When a listing says "LCD monitor" it usually means the older kind — lit by a fluorescent CCFL tube. LED backlighting is brighter for the power it uses, slimmer, instant to full brightness, mercury-free and longer-lasting. Every GAMEO monitor is LED-backlit, with an A+ Grade IPS panel.

What LED and LCD actually mean

LCD — liquid crystal display — is the panel technology itself. Millions of tiny liquid crystal shutters open and close to shape the picture, pixel by pixel. Every modern flat-panel gaming monitor, LED-labelled or not, uses liquid crystal cells. GAMEO uses IPS-type liquid crystal panels for their wide viewing angles and consistent colour.

LED LIGHTS IT

Liquid crystals do not glow on their own — a backlight shines through them. Older LCD monitors used CCFL fluorescent tubes; LED monitors use light-emitting diodes. So "LED vs LCD" is really "LED-backlit vs fluorescent-backlit". LED is the modern standard, and the only backlight GAMEO ships.

QUALITY BINNING

What A+ panel grading means

After production, display panels are tested and sorted — binned — by visible defects. The grade tells you which bin your panel came from.

A+

No dead or stuck pixels. Tightest brightness and colour uniformity tolerances. The grade every GAMEO monitor ships with.

A

Minor tolerance allowances. Typically fine for office work, but not the top bin.

B

Visible uniformity or pixel defects permitted. Usually sold into budget or industrial channels.

Is an LED monitor better than an LCD monitor?

For a purchase today, yes. LED-backlit monitors draw less power, are slimmer, reach full brightness instantly and age more slowly than older CCFL-backlit LCD monitors. Worth knowing: an LED monitor is still an LCD panel — the LED part is the backlight, and the liquid crystal cells form the image in both.

What does an A+ grade panel mean?

Panel grading is how display manufacturers sort panels after production. A+ is the top grade: no dead or stuck pixels and the tightest tolerances for brightness and colour uniformity. Grades are the manufacturer's own quality bins rather than an independent certification.

Do GAMEO monitors use LED or LCD?

Every GAMEO monitor is an LED monitor — an IPS liquid crystal panel lit by an LED backlight — and every panel is A+ grade. That applies to the Q24-165, F24-200, F27-180 and U27-165 alike.

Does panel grade matter for gaming?

Yes. Dead or stuck pixels are most visible in dark scenes and on solid colours, and poor uniformity shows as patchy backlighting in low-light areas of a game. An A+ grade panel is selected to avoid exactly those distractions.
